Petibol began operating in 1980. Its founding partners were Jorge Araújo, Carlos Monteiro, Luis Monteiro and Emmanuel Falisse, the latter of Belgian nationality, which, from the beginning, highlighted the company's tendency towards internationalisation. Initially, Petibol's activity consisted exclusively of transforming EPS for its application in various industries, such as electronics and food, among others. At that time it also developed solutions for the construction industry, an area it has been expanding over time.

In August 2000, Petibol moved to Leça do Balio, with the purpose of offering its clients better facilities and solutions more suited to their needs. To this end, the new unit was designed and equipped with the most advanced technology in the industry.

In 2002 Petibol started processing Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) as part of a project involving a Norwegian company and Portuguese partners with high technological value.

Today, Petibol is a family-run company with around 50 employees, combining professionals with over 30 years' experience in the industry and highly qualified young people.
